The premium is the amount charged by the insurance company to provide coverage for the employer. A policy is the contract of insurance between the insurance company and the employer that sets out the rights and obligations of both. One of the provisions found in the policy is the insurance company’s duty to defend the employer if and when an employee brings a claim under the policy for an on the job injury or illness and the claim is contested.
