Discuss the views of Calvinism as they relate to capitalism.
What will be an ideal response?
Calvinists believe in predestination, the idea that people are destined for heaven or hell from birth. Financial success became seen as evidence that one was preordained to go to heaven. This, combined with the Calvinist emphasis on simple lifestyles, encouraged people to work hard and to rationally invest their money into new technology and other aspects of their business-the perfect recipe for capitalism.
