Discuss the development of early vertebrates into advanced fish and, finally, into amphibians

What body changes were required to accomplish this move from the marine environment to
land? What will be an ideal response?

The student should discuss the changes from early fish into more advanced fish with the
development of jaws. This adaptation allowed jawed fish to breathe more efficiently and
assisted eating strategies. The jawed fish developed into the lungfish and lobe-finned fish, which
eventually developed into the amphibians. These amphibians had the ability to breathe air and
move on land, but they were limited to environments close to the water because they had to
return to the water to reproduce.
