Describe several strategies for effectively managing children's dawdling and messiness during mealtimes

What will be an ideal response?

Children who continue to dawdle (or engage in purposeful messiness) should be warned and given a set time limit to finish; warn the child that he or she will be removed from the table in "X" time, and then follow through with the warning by removing the child when time is up. Also, be a positive role model and reinforce children's efforts to stay focused while eating. It is also important to be realistic about children's developmental abilities? young children are not able to remain seated and focused on eating for longer than 15-20 minutes at a time. Creating a pleasant mealtime atmosphere and serving foods that are easy for children to manage will also reduce mealtime challenges.
