Explain EIGRP.

What will be an ideal response?

There is exactly one protocol that doesn't really fit into either the distance vector or link state camp: Cisco's proprietary Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP). Back in the days when RIP was dominant, there was a huge outcry for an improved RIP, but OSPF wasn't yet out. Cisco, being the dominant router company in the world (a crown it still wears to this day), came out with the Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (IGRP), which was quickly replaced with EIGRP. EIGRP has aspects of both distance vector and link state protocols, placing it uniquely into its own "hybrid" category. Cisco calls EIGRP an advanced distance vector protocol.
