Describe the formation of deltas
What will be an ideal response?
A river reaches base level at the mouth. Here, the river's velocity rapidly decreases as it enters a larger, standing body of water. This reduced stream energy causes the deposition of the sediment load, sifted by particle size: coarser materials deposited first, finer materials last. The result is a nearly level depositional plain known as a delta.
