Why is steel reinforcement required in concrete?

What will be an ideal response?

Concrete is reasonably strong in compression but so weak in tension that its tensile strength is ignored. Therefore, concrete, in almost all situations, must be reinforced with steel, which being strong in tension, compensates for the weakness of concrete in tension.
