Identify and briefly describe at least two problems or precautions when using confrontation.
What will be an ideal response?
- Confrontations must be advanced carefully, so as not to shame or blame a client.
- Confrontations must be timed appropriately. The relationship must be well established, and the client must trust the helper’s motives. Confrontation also needs to be held until an issue has been raised on several occasions.
- Strong confrontations should not be made until the NLC is firmly established to avoid damaging the therapeutic relationship.
