Describe some aspects of human sexuality that are unique to our species.

What will be an ideal response?

The main difference between the sexual behavior of humans and that of lower species is that sexual behavior in humans tends to be controlled by the brain, while in lower species, sexual behavior is more hormonally controlled and instinctive. Environmental influences are much more important in shaping primate-especially human-sexual behavior than they are in shaping the sexual behavior of other species. Aspects of human sexuality, such as masturbation, same-gender sexual behavior, sexual signaling, and orgasm have been found to exist among nonhuman species as well, and as such, there is little in human sexuality that is unique to humans alone. In summary, then, there is little in human sexuality that is completely unique to humans, except for elaborate, complex cultural influences. In other respects, we are on a continuum with other species.
