Use Rotter's concepts of expectancy and reinforcement value to explain Toshimi's nagging of her parents to take ballet despite their hesitance.
What will be an ideal response?
Expectancy is a belief about what will happen (i.e., the likelihood of reinforcement) if we act in a certain way. Reinforcement value is a matter of preferring one reinforcer over another. For Rotter expectancy and reinforcement value determine the strength of the behavior potential and therefore the likelihood that it will be chosen as a course of action. Toshimi believed that if she took ballet she would become healthy and physically fit, thereby gaining the respect of others (expectancy), which was reinforcing to her. This was more important to her than was gaining her parent's approval by being inactive.
