What is the objective of professional counseling as it pertains to alcoholism?

What will be an ideal response?

The important objective of professional counseling is not only to get the problem drinker to give up drinking but also to lead him to the realization that he can never be a moderate drinker and that he can never again use alcohol. Once he has come to this realization and makes a positive effort to do something about it, to find ways of meeting his problems other than with alcohol, the counseling mission has been successfully accomplished.
