Remember the ABCs. Remain calm. Know how to summon help immediately. Stay with the resident. Perform procedures that you are qualified to do to assist the resident. Avoid moving the resident until you are instructed to do so. Know your facility’s procedures and emergency code words. Know how to activate the EMS system. Keep the resident warm. Avoid giving the resident food or fluids. Turn the resident’s head to the side if she or he begins vomiting. Provide reassurance. Protect the resident's privacy.
