Describe the events that occur during metaphase

During metaphase, the already condensed chromosomes (in the form of sister chromatids, held together by the centromeres) migrate towards the equator of the cell (the metaphase plate). The division of centromeres marks the end of metaphase, which signals the beginning of anaphase.
