Describe the techniques used to facilitate behavioral activation in cognitive therapy.

What will be an ideal response?

Answer: The two important techniques that facilitate behavioral activation are activity monitoring and activity scheduling. Activity monitoring requires writing in an activity log how clients are spending their time. The client collects data on those activities that give pleasure and those that promote a sense of accomplishment. Scaling (0–10 scale where 0 = no pleasure or accomplishment and 10 = the highest degree of accomplishment) gives baseline data. The next step is activity scheduling—writing down those activities that the client will engage in over the week that will yield a greater sense of reward.
