Regarding effect sizes, in a two-way ANOVA (doesn’t matter if it’s between-subjects or repeated-measures), why must we report an eta squared (?2) and not a partial eta squared (?p2)? Stated differently, why is partial eta squared incorrect in a two-way ANOVA?
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: The eta squared must be used because in a two-way ANOVA, three are three sources of between-groups variability and thus three effect sizes to report, one for each source of between-groups variability. The partial eta squared excludes variability traceable to the other factors and interaction, whereas the eta squared takes this into account in its calculation.
