Why does William Julius Wilson believe that class, and not race, is the determining characteristic for African Americans being accepted by the dominant culture?
What will be an ideal response
African Americans who have been able to enter the middle and upper classes are more accepted by the dominant class because they have achieved and adopted middle class standards and have been assimilated into housing, occupations, and educational pursuits of the dominant classes. There is evidence that within the African American community there is less support for lower class, inner city African Americans who succumb to the culture of poverty and ideologies to justify their perpetual poverty.
