Describe social skill interventions and how these can be used in the early childhood classroom
What will be an ideal response?
Some of the social skill interventions that can be used in the early childhood classroom include peer mentors. Peer mentors are peers trained in supporting social skill interactions and interacting with the targeted child throughout the day. Thoughts and feeling activities can be used to support social interaction skills such as empathy and perspective taking. Social stories are tools that present a brief social construct to children in the form of a story, and role-playing is used to address basic interaction skills, and provide children with opportunities to practice developing skills. Behavioral rehearsals allow the child an opportunity to practice skills while taking the perspective of another child.
