How did the Thirty Years’War lead to the Westphalian system?

What will be an ideal response?

Conflict between Catholics and Protestants in the Holy Roman Empire caused war to break out in 1618. Because the Holy Roman Empire stretched across all of Central Europe, eventually every European power became involved. The conflict became more about power—and who would rule where—than just about religion alone. When the wars finally ended with the Treaties of Westphalia, many of Europe’s modern states had broken free from the Holy Roman Empire, and a new international system was created based on sovereign states and the principle of nonintervention into their domestic affairs.
