How are present day yakuza different from their historical counterparts?

What will be an ideal response?

The new yakuza that emerged AFTER WWII was populated by unemployed returning combat veterans and was far more violent and materialistic than their prewar predecessors. Abandoning many yakuza traditions, they emulated American gangsters in dress, often using firearms obtained from American GIs in place of a traditional samurai sword. The "new yakuza" entered a burgeoning black market that included trafficking in amphetamines, a stimulant whose use had been promoted by the military and among industrial workers during the war to boost productivity.
