Please discuss the history of Korea, explaining how it came to be divided into two countries. What is the current situation in South Korea and North Korea?

What will be an ideal response?

Historically, the rugged terrain of the Korean peninsula made it very difficult for outsiders to conquer the region. However, with the advent of improved weaponry in the 1900s, both Japan and China have played a larger role. At the end of World War II, the peninsula was divided at the 38th parallel, with the northern part as a communist dictatorship. Today, South Korea is a capitalist democracy. At the end of 2010, tensions between North and South Korea intensified, with war games by both sides.
