Discuss the "gender wage gap", including in your essay what it is, who it applies to, how big it is currently, who is most hurt by it and how much is the lifetime impact, and its change over time

What will be an ideal response?

The gender wage gap (or pay gap) refers to the gap between the earnings of full-time-employed men and women. In the U.S. women earn an average of 77-78% of what men earn. Those who are most hurt by it are Hispanic and Black women, whose earnings are lowest compared to white men. The lifetime impact for them ranges from about $470,000 to $650,000. (Students will likely not know these figures, but answers such as "about half a million dollars" or "hundreds of thousands" should be ok.) (However their gap compared to Hispanic and Black men is not as great as White and Asian women's gaps compared to White and Asian men, because the wages of Hispanics and Blacks are low overall.) Over time, the gap has declined.
