Describe Vaillant's model of successful aging

ANSWER:

Vaillant (2002) proposed a model of successful aging that has six criteria, three related to health and three related to social engagement and productive activity. The three criteria related to health are no physical disability at age 75 as rated by a physician, good subjective physical health (that is, no issues with instrumental activities of daily living [IADLs]), and length of undisabled life. The three social engagement factors are good mental health, objective social support, and self-rated life satisfaction in eight domains (marriage, income-producing work, children, friendships, hobbies, community service, religion, and recreation/sports). Vaillant's research indicates that older age has unique aspects. Factors that predict health at earlier points in the life span may not in the later years.
