What are the paralegal’s responsibilities for arranging service of the divorce or dissolution complaint?

What will be an ideal response?

It must first be determined whether the defendant is within the jurisdiction at a known location. This is the easiest service, and will probably be in-hand or abode service. An out-of-state defendant whose domicile is known may be served by certified mail, or by an authorized process server. A defendant whose whereabouts is unknown may be served by publication, a printed notice published in a paper in his or her last known area of residence. An affidavit of publication will be returned after the appropriate period of publication, and the papers must be file with the court.
