What is transmigration and what is its importance in Southeast Asia?

What will be an ideal response?

Transmigration is a governmental policy that encourages people to migrate to a specific area for a specific purpose. The government of Indonesia, for example, encouraged citizens to migrate from the densely-settled island of Java to more sparsely settled islands. While helping to spread out the population, the policy caused some environmental damage and resulted in some ethnic conflict. Transmigration is no longer strongly enforced.
