Before the invasive procedure is started, an informed consent form must be signed. The mydria-tic drops are then instilled 1 hour before the procedure. An IV is inserted and the fluorescein dye injected. A series of photographs are taken. After the procedure, the client is instructed to drink plenty of fluids to aid with excretion of the dye through the urine. The client is taught to wear dark glasses to prevent pain caused by the bright light until the mydriatic action of the drops has worn off.
