The liver is commonly damaged if drugs or other toxins are over consumed. Why? What will be an ideal response?

ANSWER: All substances enter the blood stream and travel directly to the liver. This is good, because
the liver is the organ responsible for detoxifying drugs and other dangerous substances.
However, that also means that the liver is exposed to high levels of these toxins. As a result,
the liver is subject to damage.
