The major difficulty with qualitative methods concerns the validity of generalizing results to the larger population. By focusing on specific phenomena, the researcher increases understanding of those phenomena but loses a broader perspective. A second limitation of qualitative research involves ethically maintaining the privacy of the individuals studied when the information presented is so specific.
