What will be an ideal response?
Answer should reflect the information found in Topic 10.10 "Origins and History." Timelines may vary but should begin at the Middle ages and include 10 other time periods. An example follows: Middle Ages-treatment was harsh and included imprisonment or confinement in poorhouses; 1547: St. Mary of Bethlehem became the first institution for people with mental disorders; Philippe Pinel, a French psychiatrist called for kinder treatment of patients at a Paris asylum; around the same time, Benjamin Rush, the father of American psychiatry, proposed more humane methods of diagnosing and treating individuals with mental illness; Dorothea Dix, in 1843, published Memorial, a book about her study of the conditions in a Massachusetts mental hospital; 1935, Leo Kanner published Child Psychiatry and founded the first pediatric psychiatry department at John Hopkins University Hospital; 1962: Norris Haring and Lakin Phillips published Educating Emotionally Disturbed Children; that same year, Eli Bower published a definition of behavioral disorders that serves as the foundation for the current federal definition; in the 1960s Nicholas Hobbs introduced Project Re-Ed that demonstrated the effectiveness of an ecological approach that included home and community environments; in 1964, a classic study about the positive effects of the teacher's attention on a preschooler's social interactions with his peers during playtime was published. Projections concerning the future may vary but should include a reason for the projection.
