Explain the characteristics of a disability co-culture.
What will be an ideal response?
A disability is any physical, emotional, mental, or cognitive impairment that impacts how a person functions in society. A disability co-culture is a group of people who share a distinct set of shared values, beliefs, and attitudes based on their common experiences of living with a disability. Recently, a number of feature films and documentaries have been produced to help people who do not live with a disability to both understand and respect various disability co-cultures. Such films help to break through misinformed stereotypes and prejudiced thinking about the value and human potential of people who live with a disability.
