Briefly describe the five generations of computers. What is Moore’s Law?

What will be an ideal response?

Computers have become quicker and smaller through successive generations of computers. The first generation of computers consisted of enormous (30 tons) computers that were operated by vacuum tubes. The second generation of computers were much smaller and faster. They were characterized by transistors, which are small switches used to control electrical current. The third generation of computers were, again, much smaller and faster. They were characterized by integrated circuits, which are small silicon chips with dozens of tiny transistors and connections. The fourth generation of computers saw the invention of the superchip and large-scale integrated circuits. LSI were chips with thousands of small transistors, which enabled the development of the personal computer. The fifth and most current generation is characterized by very large-scale integration which condenses the superchip even further and is enabling computer technology to advance into artificial intelligence and expert systems. Computers will continue to advance. Moore’s Law states that computer chip speeds will double about every 18 months.
