Briefly describe current research findings with regard to the nature of lesbian and gay relationships as presented in your textbook

What will be an ideal response?

Answer: Findings suggest that gay and lesbian relationships are quite similar to heterosexual relationships. Gay men describe a successful relationship in the same way as a heterosexual couple would describe a successful relationship. Gay and lesbian couples show high levels of attachment, caring, intimacy, affection, and respect. The marriage gradient seen in heterosexual relationships also applies to gay men. Gay men prefer a partner who is the same age or younger. For lesbian women, age preferences fall between those of gay men and heterosexual couples. There is virtually no scientific data regarding gay and lesbian marriage, since the first legal homosexual marriage occurred in the United States in 2004.
