How does an evolutionary perspective influence couple’s therapy after infidelity?

What will be an ideal response?

An evolutionary perspective provides information about behaviors and their adaptive value.
According to this perspective both infidelity and jealousy were once adaptive and still can be in certain
cases. This does not make infidelity and aggressive jealousy acceptable and justified but merely explains
the nature and origin of this kind of behavior. Evolutionary psychology also explains the reactions of the
cheated partner, whether male or female and whether the infidelity was emotional, sexual, or both.
However, the therapist should address other possible influences on behaviors of both
partners—psychological, social, and economic.
