Define virtual team and describe its advantages and disadvantages.

What will be an ideal response?

Virtual teams are teams whose members rarely or never meet face-to-face. As organizations become increasingly global, and as the need for specialized knowledge increases due to advances in technology, managers can create virtual teams to solve problems or explore opportunities without being limited by members' needing to work in the same geographic location.

The principal advantage of virtual teams is that they enable managers to disregard geographic distances and form teams whose members have the knowledge, expertise, and experience to tackle a particular problem or take advantage of a specific opportunity. One challenge that members of virtual teams face is building a sense of camaraderie and trust among team members who rarely, if ever, meet face-to-face. Virtual team members might also be less satisfied with teamwork efforts and have fewer feelings of camaraderie or cohesion.

When asked how he always seems to know just the right solution, he just shrugs and says with a laugh that if anybody spent as much time messing around with computers as he has, then they would be able to do the same thing.
