Compare and contrast the differences between a proactive social movement and a reactive social movement.

What will be an ideal response?

Proactive social movements seek to reform existing social arrangements and try out new ways of living together. The environmental justice, Occupy Wall Street, and LBGTQ movements are examples of proactive social movements. Reactive social movements, on the other hand, seek to defend traditional values and social arrangements. The climate change countermovement that consists of groups who spend large amounts of money to debunk the claims of the climate justice movement is an example of a reactive social movement.
