How are Erving Goffman’s concepts of giving and giving off different in CMC than in face-to-face communication?

What will be an ideal response?

Goffman said we give verbal cues and give off nonverbal cues. In face-to-face communication, nonverbal cues play a significant part in our ability to express ourselves and our identities. Because CMC relies far more heavily on verbal than nonverbal cues, what we give is more significant. This does not mean there is no giving off in CMC; exclamation points and emoticons are often used to show emotion.
