Explain how to record the sale of non-influential equity securities.

What will be an ideal response?

When non-influential equity securities are sold, the difference between the net proceeds (sale price less fees) and the cost of the individual non-influential equity securities that are sold is recognized as a gain or loss. Any prior period fair value adjustment is not used to compute the gain or loss from the sale. Gains and losses are included in net income for the period. When the period-end fair value adjustment for the portfolio of non-influential equity securities is computed, it excludes the cost and fair value of any securities sold.
