What are the goals of strategic family therapy?

What will be an ideal response?

Strategic family therapists are interested in changing behavior rather than in trying to understand it. The hallmark of strategic therapy is creating novel strategies for solving problems (Nichols & Schwartz, 2007). Strategic family therapists treat “presenting symptoms as a solution to a problem (rather than an expression of some hidden, underlying ‘real’ problem) and go about designing a plan for its extinction” (Goldenberg & Goldenberg, 2002, p. 93). The therapist works to help the family achieve its next family developmental life cycle.
