List and explain three perspectives that can be used for thinking about disabilities.
What will be an ideal response?
The answer should indicate that people with disabilities have learned to fight to get their voices heard and their opinion put forth. In the past, family members and professionals were the advocates for individuals with disabilities. Now, individuals with disabilities have become more vocal, demanding social justice and civil rights. Examples include Ed Roberts at the University of California Berkeley and the Deaf President Now movement that took place at Gallaudet University. Descriptions of both examples are found in Topic 1.5 "Disability as a Minority Group" section of the chapter.
