What is meant by the term heterogeneous when used in the definition of cooperative learning group? Why is heterogeneous grouping preferred over homogeneous grouping?

What will be an ideal response?

Heterogeneous means that the group is mixed according to one or more characteristics, such as learning capacity, skill level, ethnicity, gender, language proficiency, and so forth. When children of mixed backgrounds and capabilities work together toward a common goal, members of the group increase their friendship and respect for one another, and they learn. This is important for real-world survival. As a result of heterogeneous grouping, each individual's self-esteem is enhanced, students are motivated to higher-order thinking, and academic achievement is accomplished.
