Define beliefs, attitudes, and values and discuss why it is important that therapists understand these prior to the end of their formal training.
What will be an ideal response?
A belief can be defined as a judgment of relationship between an object and some characteristic of the object. Beliefs are cognitive constructs that can be distinguished from attitudes (positive or negative feelings toward an object), and behavior (action toward an object). Further, beliefs can be distinguished from values because beliefs merely represent how an individual perceives the world. In contrast, values contain propositions about what should be.
