Compare and contrast anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa
Anorexia nervosa (AN) is an irrational fear of gaining weight or becoming obese, causing a "turning away" from food. There are two types: restricting type and binge-eating/purging type. Bulimia nervosa (BN) is "turning to" food during times of emotional conflict or stress. There are two types as well: purging type and non-purging type. There are twice as many people with BN as with AN. People with bulimia tend to be above their acceptable weight range with little change in their weight. People with AN become excessively thin and appear gaunt.
