The law as it relates to teachers and students
The text of Chapter 9 includes a section on "teachers and the law" and another section on "students and the law." After reading the text and discussing the related ideas, discuss ways in which teacher protections are related to student protections. Address as many subtopics as possible in those two sections. Identify the legal component (from either section) which is likely to bother you the most, and describe the reason(s) for your concern.

ANS: Scoring guide:
Key elements that should appear in an appropriate response:
* The first part of the assignment requires the student to seek relationships between the two categories of people protected by the law. Full credit is based on the quality and quantity of legal connections between the two groups.
* The second aspect of the assignment depends upon the student's careful reading of the protections, the critical analysis of the legal protections, and the reflection of the law's impact on the emerging professional. The assignment of full credit depends on the logic of the reason or reasons provided.
