What are three challenges caregivers face when caring for dementia patients?

What will be an ideal response?

Most dementia sufferers are diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and the course of the disease is somewhat unknown as to how fast a loved one will be alive. Watching a loved one struggle with Alzheimer's disease can be both heartrending and uplifting for family members. Most people with dementia are cared for by their family members at home and the new challenges that arise have to be addressed by making adjustments in the home and with daily activities. Wandering, incontinence, sundowning, and accusations are just a few of the behaviors caregivers have to be prepared to deal with. Differential reinforcement of incompatible behavior and spaced retrieval are approaches that caregivers can use as interventions. Caregivers are at an increased risk for depression. Support for caregivers is available through face-to-face and online sources. Respite care and adult day care allow family members to get away from the caregiving situation for a time.
