First make sure the parking brake is released. Then if necessary, back off the brake shoe adjustment through the slot in the backing plate or brake drum. Next if necessary, relieve all tension from the parking brake cables by loosening the adjusting nut at the equalizer. And finally if necessary cut off the heads of the hold down springs on the inboard side of the backing plates to remove the drum.
