According to Dr. Fisher, why is the capacity for love maintained in old age?
What will be an ideal response?
In humans, reproduction becomes possibly dangerous, undesirable, and then impossible when a
woman gets to certain age. However, studies and real-life examples prove that people remain capable of
romantic love and developing new relationship at all ages. Dr. Fisher explains it with two reasons. First
of all, romantic love is related to the reward system, and this system is useful throughout the life. So this
system makes us interested in love and romance at all ages. Also, evolutionarily, many people have died
at relatively young ages, in their 50s or 60s, and it was probably adaptive for the remaining partner to
fall in love again, share troubles of old age, and have someone take care of them.
