Describe the manufacturing process for concrete masonry units from the use of an autoclave until completion.
What will be an ideal response?
?An autoclave uses high-pressure steam. The molded units are placed in the autoclave, allowed to set for two to five hours, and then gradually heated with saturated steam under a pressure of 150 psi (1,035 kPa) for two to three hours. Once the maximum temperature (350°F (178°C)) and pressure are reached, the units soak for five to ten hours. The pressure is gradually released over a thirty-minute period before they are moved to storage. They can be used twenty-four hours after leaving the autoclave. High pressure steamed units have greater stabilization against volume changes caused by moisture than the low-pressure units do.
