What is an intranet? What are the benefits of an intranet? How can PR professionals use an intranet to support employee relations efforts?
What will be an ideal response?
An intranet is the Internet used specifically inside an organization, closed to the outside Internet community. It allows larger organizations the capacity to coordinate or communicate across departments and locations, centralizing information and interconnectivity. Intranets can carry a wealth of information for organization members, including employee newsletters, tutorials, press clips, project information, employee benefits information, and policies and includes conferencing functions and multimedia. For the PR professional, the Intranet provides for faster communication, wider distribution, and greater efficiency than many printed and electronic media. User interactivity is a growing trend in company Intranets.
