Under Arizona law, a legal document preparer is someone “who provides document preparation assistance and services to individuals and entities not represented by an attorney.” A legal document preparer becomes and remains certified by attending a minimum of ten hours board-approved continuing education each year. A paralegal in Arizona “can receive a legal document preparer’s certification if they have a paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program or a non-ABA-approved, accredited program with a minimum of twenty-four semester units in legal specialization courses.” This means, that when a paralegal gets her certification, and proves she has it, she can apply to get her legal document preparer certificate right after.
