Explain the reasons why fertility rates are higher in developing countries.

What will be an ideal response?

While contraception is often hard to get there are also cultural and economic reasons why women have more children in developing countries. One reason is that they need the labor to help with household or agricultural jobs because there is a lack of heavy machinery and other technologies. Another reason is that many cultures see having a lot of children as a sign of prestige or of religious devotion. A third reason is that many parents know they will need their children to take care of them when they are older and since many children die prematurely they have to have more to reach their ideal number.
