Explain how the mycorrhizae and plant root interaction is considered symbiotic.

What will be an ideal response?

The mycorrhizae will invade the cortex of the plant root and grow between the cell walls (ectomycorrhizae) or penetrate the cell walls (endomycorrhizae). The presence of the fungi will give the plant a greater surface area for absorption of minerals. The fungus will benefit by receiving carbohydrates from the plants.
